YouTube for Android Gets Massive Version 5.0 Update: Picture in Picture, New UI and More!

  • Who saw this coming? Google decided to give a major revamp to the looks of the YouTube Android app, that has reached version 5.0, bringing it a bunch of novelties and a fresh UI, that’s shown in the screenshots below.


    First of all we get a new icon and the new user interface is based on the Google Now card styling. YouTube is basically redesigned from the ground up now and everything is different in a better way. There’s a slide out menu that looks better than it ever did on the left side. The app gets a staged rollout and if it hasn’t hit your Play Store, you can get the APK from here.

    YouTube 5.0’s changelog includes in app multitasking, or better said picture in picture. With this feature you can minimize and watch a video while browsing through other clips. The minimize button pushes a playing video to the bottom corner and the HD and CC buttons have been relegated to the menu, saving space on the screen. Quite an evolution for YouTube, so kudos Google!
