  • The Xbox Media Center is an open source media streaming platform, that received some appreciation from customizers and DIY fanatics, thanks to a long list of features. Great customization is its main appeal and after 10 years of tinkering, the creators are ready to unleash an Android version. That one is teased in the video below.

You shouldn’t confuse this software with the current remote app, since this is truly the upcoming XBMC for Android application, with full instructions. The app still needs some work, especially on the decoding or audio and video on smartphones/tablets and of course set top boxes a well. Hardware acceleration will be available later on this platform and it will most likely depend on the devices you’re using. The developer team behind this product has some nice plans here.

They promise stuff like launching apps, location awareness, speech recognition and much more. The developers received funding from the Pivos set top box maker, but don’t worry, as the XBMC for Android software will be available for free. But wouldn’t this make the Nexus Q useless?
