Wimbledon Official Android App Review – Inferior to the Roland Garros App (Video)

  • Having tested the Roland Garros Android app right when it appeared, I have to say that I was a bit underwhelmed by the official Wimbledon Android application, detailed below. While it does look good on a tablet screen, it’s free and takes up 1.4MB of space, it doesn’t seem to offer as much satisfaction as the Roland Garros one.

What this software does offer is a livescore section, a media section with interviews and previews, a match schedule and profiles for all players in the tournament. Sadly, there’s no live video to watch, instead you get a live audio feed from the court. There’s also a News section, with big pictures and reasonably well formatted text, a section for draws and you must know that the live score area also includes statistics, as does the Results section. You get aces, serves, errors, speed of serve and other important stats like that.

Also, there’s a map with important points highlighted, such as toilets, restaurants, gift shops, parking spaces and entrances. This doesn’t even begin to compare to the Roland Garros app virtual 3D tour of the arena with that augmented reality feeling. So, sorry Wimbledon but you’re only a 7 out of 10 for us… You can download the app from here.
