SMS Backup & Restore is one of the most reliable apps for backing up our messages. There are plenty of options available for storing our archive, including Dropbox support. The restore function works pretty fast, even if you’re dealing with a large number of messages. The recent update brought a redesigned interface holo style. Included in the new version there is also support for detection of external storage cards, inbuilt file/folder browser and the ability to open conversation from search result, among many other improvements.

SMS Backup & Restore is extremely easy to use, placing all the options easily accessible when you first open the app. The Dropbox sync module needs to be downloaded from the Store and you can do it through the settings menu. You can also send your backups to Email or any other online storage app you have installed. Backups are created in XML format and saved to your device’s SD card. The XML can then be converted to other formats, and can also be viewed on a computer.
