  • Although it’s not available in the Play Store yet, you can get the Twitter Beta version 5.0 at the end of this article, through some download links for the APK. The new app finally brings an updated UI, but keeps the ugly widget and doesn’t have tablet optimization.

We get Android style tabs, in line media previews, a REAL action bar and hamburger navigation. This is the same version of the app that leaked at IFA 2013 last week and it still has some bugs, especially the lag in the side swiping action. As you can see, we now have a left side menu available, just like in the Google+ and Facebook Android apps, plus YouTube.

Everything feels more aired out and simple, so this UI is pretty good. Now you’re scroll from side to side to reach Notifications, Messages, Activity, Trending and Home. For now tablets get the same UI as handsets, but I suspect a new interface is in the works for slates as well. In the meantime, if you’re not afraid of bugs you can download Twitter 5.0 from here or here.
