  • If you’re among the lucky owners of a Galaxy Nexus, the GSM variety, then you know you will soon receive the update to Android Jelly Bean, along with the Nexus S and Motorola Xoom users. You must know that Google has released the Galaxy Nexus Jelly Bean OTA update for the developers at I/O and as expected it was leaked on the internet and integrated into a ROM. The procedure for installing it is rather easy, rooting will be more troublesome. Keep in mind that we are not responsible in any way for any damage to your hardware or software. Continue only if you have basic knowledge of flashing and your device is rooted with CWM Recovery installed. It should work on both Yakju and Takju (US – sold on the Play Store) devices.

First make sure you backup any important data, apps and anything you might think of. To make it easy you need to download the app ROM Manager from the Play Store. Either version, free or Pro will do. If you don’t have CWM Recovery installed the app will do it for you. Next you need to either select Install ROM from SD Card and download the the ROM from the link at the end of the article or select Download ROM (full list available for the Premium app users) and find Jelly Bean to download. Then select the available Pre-Instalation options, Wipe Data and Cache and Davlink Cache is a must if you don’t want any problems, and that is it. After installing it will boot into Jelly Bean.

Rooting. After you’ve flashed the ROM you lost the custom recovery and root privileges. Don’t worry. We have that covered too. All the tools will be posted at the end. Download and install the Galaxy Nexus ToolKit v7.0. Download the CWM-SuperSU-v0.92-mod.zip and place it on your SD card. Turn the phone off and start it in fastboot mode by holding the power button and both volume buttons at the same time. Connect the phone to PC.  Start the Galaxy Nexus ToolKit and chose the option 6 then 6 and install CWM Touch Recovery (option 1). After that you can install the zip you placed on your SD Card, courtesy of XDA Developers, for root access. One other thing, if the appropriate drivers are not installed on your PC use the Galaxy Nexus ToolKit to install them. Good Luck!

Here is the link for all the tools you will need. The Galaxy Nexus ToolKit was developed by mskip so thank him.
