Top 5 Games and Apps of the Week March 24th – March 31st: Cordy 2 Review, New Frontline Commando and Iron Man 3 Trailer
Spring is totally here and courtesy of GDC 2013 we got some intel regarding upcoming titles for Android. Those include Iron Man 3, among others, but we also did some interesting reviews over the past days, for both apps and games. We got to test the exquisite HTC One and played Cordy 2 on it also BladeSlinger, that will be reviewed later on. Till then let’s see the hottest games and apps of the past week.
There’s not a shortage of photo editing apps on Android, that’s for sure, but one of the best is Pixlr Express, that we reviewed a while ago. The app is available for free and it’s filled with tweaks, options and settings. It includes filters and a ton of effects, that can turn a picture into a work of art. The app requires Android 2.2 or newer versions and allows you to crop pictures, resize them, get rid of the red eye effect, apply some frames and play with contrast, sharpness and other such features. There’s also an Autofix option and hundreds of effects applied to shots
The app is available here.
We were in dire need of a REAL RPG, one that actually involves moving around and exploring huge areas, while fighting enemies and upgrading spells. The game is easy to compare with Elder Scrolls, especially the older game in the series. Tegra 3 enhancements like bloom effects and real time shadows are included and also a soundtrack made by composer Sean Beeson. You can wield bows, hammers, axes and swords and upgrade all sorts of items and abilities. The game is made by Crescent Moon, who have been on a roll recently, also pulling out the very appreciated Slingshot Racing game.
You can download Ravensword: Shadowlands from here.
I know quite a bunch of people passionate about the WW II battles, such as the big Normandy D Day. This battle is covered in the latest Glu Mobile title, Frontline Commando: D-Day. While the first Frontline Commando was all about Middle East and fighting locals, choppers and using your typical american hero, this time we take to the trenches and fight the Nazis. You will be shooting from behind covers, gunning towards airplanes and enjoying a gameplay that’s a bit more dynamic than the predecessor’s.
There’s a crazy number of 145 missions available, based on real landings. You can download the game from here.
Iron Man 3 is one of the most awaited movies this summer and as usual for superhero games, Gameloft jumps in and creates a game adapted to the Tony Stark experience. This time they go the route of the endless runner, or better said endless flyer, meaning you can fly the red/gold robot all over the place and blast stuff. Just like the new Die HArd, that got a running and shooting game, you will get to play an Iron Man 3 for Android based on endless running and laser blasting.
You can also shoot rockets and probably do other cool things with your robot suit.
Cordy 2 is one of those excellent games that you have a lot of fun playing and when you pay $4.99, you won’t end up regretting that amount, since the game is fun. It’s basically a combo between the best platformers I’ve played and a few classic’s like Oddworld’s Abe, Crash Bandicoot, Jak and Daxter and Sonic. Yes, all of them have been crammed into this game that we tested on the full HD HTC One handset. There are 4 levels to play for free and then you have to pay up to access the total of 48 levels. You will jump around, solve puzzles, press buttons, play with electricity and much more, in a lovely adventure.
You can get the game from here.
It’s been a busy week in the world of Android and since April is here, we’re only a month and a bit away from the unveiling of the new Android, new Play Store, maybe the new Google music service and who knows what Nexus goodies are coming…
