  • It happens so rarely nowadays to see a really original game, that we’ve become baffled when we actually run into such a title. The Trail is such a game, coming from 22Cans, one of the Peter Molyneux founded companies, a name that requires no detailing, since he’s being huge hits like Populous or Black & White. Well, we played this free game on the Huawei Nova and had a blast.

This game is actually pretty hard to explain, since it’s rather atypical. You play as a settler and a trailblazer, who’s off to conquer the world, in this case what appears to be the American soil. It feels like an endless runner sometimes, other times like an interesting adventure game. The character auto walks or runs, if you swipe up and as he walks, you’ll see various objects and items scattered all around.

You can pick those up and stuff them in your backpack, that’s usually overcrowded. I’m talking about berries, rocks, shells, you name it, twigs and rabbit fur included. Those can be used to craft items, once you reach a campsite. There you can also trade stuff and sell stuff. You have to get recipes for objects in order to craft them, so everything is well though out.

There’s a stamina meter here, so your character needs to eat fruit or rest every once in a while, otherwise he’ll collapse. The graphics are very nice looking, a bit cartoonish, but cartoonish good, not cartoonish bad. It’s very much like an indie Xbox 360 title, if you know what I mean. In spite of having so many mechanics to face, the game is actually quite intuitive and everything is explained clearly.

I loved playing it and had fun, in spite of the sometimes annoying swipe controls and camera. We give this game a 9.2 out of 10 and you can download it here. It’s very soothing and relaxing and it also lets you see other gamers and travellers like you walking the trail. Must try!
