  • Being a Batman fan and all, I must say I was a bit underwhelmed by the movie The Dark Knight Rises, but the Android game that was launched with the movie is actually quite good. Surprisingly good I might say, considering the expectations in this case. We’re dealing with a Gameloft title that costs $6.99 and offers hours and hours of action, seen in third person.

The storyline follows the events of the movie and includes tracking down Selina Kyle, rescuing Thalia al Ghul and driving around Gotham in the Bat Pod. There’s also the mission at the bank where you encounter Bane and you even end up in the Pit, shaped more like a warehouse. There’s also the sequence where you rise from the pit, emotional in the movie and here as well. The soundtrack is excellent, getting the contribution from Hans Zimmer and the action is very fast paced. Some battles are repetitive, but that’s a problem of all Batman games, Arkham City and Asylum included.

You do combos of physical movements, like punches, kicks and other cool moves. Batman also uses gadgets like smoke grenades, his grapple hook, batarang and he has a deep bag of tricks, believe me. Your gadgets can be updated and you can level up, as you earn experience. You can also glide in the rainy Gotham and fly above snipers, as you try to figure out how to disarm them. This is a very challenging and entertaining game, with great voice acting, the storyline of the movie and fantastic graphics, not to mention the soundtrack.

We tested it on a Nexus 7 and while it may have stuttered sometimes, the overall gaming experience was good. Just be careful to close all of the other apps when you start this time. We give a 9 out of 10 for a very good time we had with it. You have vehicles, gadgets, gliding and tons of action sequences, that will rock your day. The download is here.
