  • Sony unveiled the PlayStation 4 this week, but their 3 hour long event was not so much about the console itself, but rather about the entire ecosystem that the brand PlayStation now stands for. That includes a brand new iOS and Android application, that we’ll detail in the following lines.

Sony also promised tie ins with the PS Vita console and even some integration of Xperia smartphones and tablets, plus other PlayStation Certified devices. They intend to launch a second screen experience, much like Microsoft is doing with the SmartGlass project on Xbox and Windows 8 slates. The term Sony was PlayStation app, but few other details were provided.

PS Vita got remote play and I’d be surprised if certain hardcore tablets with good hardware specs didn’t get the same treatment. I guess that they would still have to be Sony gear, though… Once the PS app is installed to your device, you will be able to see maps for games, purchase PS4 games while away frm home or remotely watch other gamers playing on their devices. Cool, right?
