Sony Announces New Mobile Devices at IFA 2012 (Video)

  • The Sony conference in underway and already they have announced a number of mobile devices to extend their current Xperia line-up. Three new smartphones and the rumored Xperia Tablet S have been officially presented, along with new Sony services that will be implemented across all Sony devices from tablets to laptops.

    Watch, Listen, Play and Create. It’s Sony’s new slogan for this year’s new products. The mobile market has just been extended with four new Sony branded devices:

    • The long expected Xperia Tablet S has been brought to life and the manufacturer has announced it will release all future tablets under the Xperia brand. It offers a crisp display, high quality sound and splash resistant casing. As rumored, it features a Tegra 3 chip, up to 64GB of built-in storage and runs on Android 4.0. The design is similar to last year’s Tablet S only it’s build quality has been improved with an aluminum back panel. Among the new software features there is the Watch Now app that allows for live TV-viewing and an added Guest Mode that lets you create custom user profiles, forbidding the use of certain apps. Sony is also promising a future upgrade to Jelly Bean.

    • The three new Xperia smartphones are the Xperia T, Xperia V and Xperia J. The devices are based on the successful Xperia Arc design under the Sony brand. The Xperia T is Sony’s new flagship model, featuring a 4.6 inch display with Mobile Bravia technology and a 13MP camera with fast capture mode and sleep-to-snap. It is capable of full HD 1080p video playback and it runs Android Ice Cream Sandwich. The hardware configuration includes a 1.5GHz dual-core CPU, pentaband UMTS / HSPA+ radios, a front-facing cam with 720p video capture, NFC, MHL connectivity, FM radio, 16GB onboard storage and an 1,850mAh battery.

    • The Xperia Vsports LTE connectivity allowing its users to take advantage of the high speed networks. As the Xperia T, it is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core CPU, has a 13MP camera, Ice Cream Sandwich OS and NFC technology. Its screen is slightly smaller at 4.3-inches (720p HD Reality Display) and fatter 10.7mm chassis.

    • The Xperia J is meant to be offered at a competitive price in a stylish design. It is powered by a 1GHz CPU, has 4GB of internal storage and runs Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich. Other features include a 5MP camera on the back and a and a front-facing VGA snapper for video calls.

    Sony also announced new services and apps. Among these are the new media apps, integral part of the interface on all Sony products. The new ClearAudio+ will set another standard in sound technologies. Customers who buy a new Xperia smartphone will get a 60-day free trial of their Music Unlimited service.
