  • Sega has kept on living, even if it gave up on hardware in favour of software. They’re launching new Sonic titles every now and then and some of them are real hits, such as the one reviewed below. The game is called Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed and it goes for a mere dollar.

I played it on the Xperia Z1 and had a blast with it. We’ve got all the famous characters included, 10 racers in all, such as Sonic, Tails and even Wreck it Ralph. The tracks are dynamic and sometimes include sections of water racing, air racing and track racing. In such situations, your vehicle will transform into a boat or plane, whichever one is required.

There are powerups to collect, weapons to use against the enemies by shooting them upfront or towards the back and much more. You get speed boosts by flying/racing over purple stripes and there’s also drifting and a multiplayer that will be added at a later date.

The bad thing about the game is that it uses up the battery pretty fast, but I do like the graphics, the soundtrack and nice feel of the vehicles and gameplay mechanics, with all the transformation. 13 tracks are available here and acceleration is automatic, just so you know. The control is done with a movable thumbstick. We give this game a 9.2 out of 10, because it’s very fun to play and it’s sometimes better than the Angry Birds Go experience. You can download the game here.
