  • The 1983 classic Lode Runner has just been ported to Android, in an authorized version that’s actually legit, so there’s no hacking, rooting or torrenting involved. The classic puzzle platformer has been available on iOS for quite a while, but it’s only now that it has hit Android.

The app takes up 24 MB of space and it has you spending $3 on it. The app package name indicates that we’re dealing with a port based on the Game Boy version of the title, so it’s not exactly the OG game. The description does claim that the game is “true to the Apple II experience”. At least we get some modern features like customizable controls, the possibility to alter the color of the worlds and online leaderboards. Lode Runner Classic offers 150 levels of gameplay and its maze-like bunch of static levels and frantic action.

You need to dodge enemies, while climbing and running, as you hunt for gold. There’s no jumping here and shooting enemies is not an option. Well, at least you can blast blocks in order to access lower platforms or trap the enemies who are after you. There are two games modes available: Expedition and Time Attack, plus there’s a new magnification effect, allowing you to zoom the action around the Runner. You can get the classic from here.
