  • Real Player for Android has been available as a Beta build for some time. The final release has just reached the Play Store. It manages to do a little of everything but does not excel as an all-in-one media player.

RealNetworks are behind their most recognized media player available for all PC platforms – RealPlayer. Now available for Android, RealPlayer is an all-in-one media player for music / video playback and photo viewing. RealNetworks claims that the app had 11.2 million customers on Android while still in beta. My first impresions of the first stable release is that it still needs some work. The UI responds with some delay and at times feels very sluggish. Given the fact that it’s the official way to playback real media content from the web, some may find it very useful.

Though offered for free on the Play Store, RealPlayer misses some features that you can purchase after installing the app. For media consumption, RealPlayer offers many features. Here are some of them:

    • Music, videos and photos all in one place
    • Available in nine languages
    • Optimized graphics for high-res devices
    • Playlists
    • lastFM scrobbling
    • Voice commands for search
    • Control playback when phone is locked
    • Sharing on popular social media sites
    • Move application to SD card
    • Set your favorite song as a ringtone
    • Headphones controls
    • Auto bookmarking of videos
    • Home screen widgets to control media
    • Access any file format your device supports

    The premium package will unlock:

Graphic equalizer with ability to save custom settings

    • Metadata discovery using the Gracenote database
    • Manual metadata editing
    • Cross fading for a seamless music experience
    • RealAudio and RealVideo (rmvb) support
    • No advertisements

Download and install RealPlayer from the Play Store.
