  • Who imagined that one of the best games on Android in 2016 would be a pinball title? It’s dubbed PinOut, comes from Mediocre and it’s free in the Play Store. We played it on the ASUS ZenFone 3 ZE552KL and had a blast with it. As the name says, it’s a pinball game, with a lot of visual personality and style, plus a nifty soundtrack.

There’s a huge Tron vibe coming from the game, in both the graphical and sound department. I’m talking about the 2010 Tron Legacy movie, of course. It’s all lasers, trippy animations and flashy neon hues. Aside from just hitting the ball with two flippers, you will get into minigames that give you extra seconds, because yes, the game is limited by time.

There are also checkpoints, that will be remembered only if you pay a $2 fee, just like in the game Smash It. One of the minigames involves swiping to the left or right with an 8 bit car in order to gather seconds. The pinballs will go around on intricated tracks, you’ll get powerups and a variety of routes to take, most of them feeling wrong for some reason.

Powerups include one that slows down time, or one that doesn’t count the seconds when the ball is moving around for example. You can proceed into new areas, with new graphics, color choices and approaches, marked by checkpoints. The soundtrack changes, the lighting and the whole vibe and difficulty of the game. Quite nice and excellently done.

We give it a 10 out of 10, even though it has its frustrating moments. You can get it here.
