  • Ouya, the famous Android game console is expected to launch in March 2013, but if you’re a developer you gain early access to it, apparently. Developer kits are available for preorder starting at $800 and they’re going today. It may sound expensive, but for this price you get a Tegra 3 gizmo, with two controllers and their SDK.

This is not a release for the general public, that’s for sure, since it’s aimed at developers and the price plus bundled stuff proves it. The console is expected to launch at a very friendly and competitive pricing, maybe in the range of $99 or so. The updates are fast on this platform and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean has already been rolling out, so by the time of the launch of the console we’ll already get Android 4.2 on it.

The idea of an Android quad core cube connected to a TV and filled with the latest Android games sure sounds like a very nice alternative to your usual Xbox, PlayStation or Nintendo Wii, but will catch on? Most people already own a smartphone and they can hook it up to the TV to play HD games or play games on the handset directly. Where does Ouya fit in with those people?
