  • Aside from the new Android release that’s expected in early summer at Google I/O 2014, we’re also supposed to get new versions of the main Android apps. Those include Gmail, that has just leaked in a few screenshots, shown below.

Apparently, aside from the graphics update, we’ll also get new features in the app. There are new neat icons for each inbox and folder and circular photos for the emails like those in Google+ and Hangouts. The screenshots seem to show that Google will add new categories to the email experience. There’s already the sorting into promotions, social, updates and forums, but now we’ll also get Finance, Travel and Purchases.

Users will be able to “pin” emails, a system that will replace the stars. This change is not only one related to design, but also to features. If you pin an email it will float to the top of the inbox after you enable that. Then it goes back to the original spot after you disable it. Stars were just another folder, so here’s the difference.

Gmail is supposed to be getting a Snooze feature, that when activated will push a new message to the bottom as newer messages come in. When the snooze time is over the mail is back to the top. We should also expect Hangouts and Calendars to be updated soon, as well.
