  • If you want an alternative to Google Maps, you can download an interesting and new app from the Play Store. It’s called GPS Navigation & Maps Light and the “light” stands for free, but there’s also a priced and full version. The app comes from Skobbler and it has a lot of nifty features.

The software requires Android 2.3.3 and up and only takes up 30 MB of space. We’ve got two apps in one: an app with navigation with voice prompts (turn by turn) for trial and a worldwide travel map. The app provides full fledged navigation for vehicles and pedestrians and features like speed warnings, street sign displays, 3D view and much more.

Everything can be seen offline and online. There’s a completely interactive OpenStreetMap and one single map with global coverage. There’s also a high performance map technology (NGx), route planner, various map styles (night, outdoor and more) and an IdeaLog with feedback for developers. The app can be download from here.
