  • Just hours after debuting the Chrome 24 browser for Windows, Mac and Linux, Google also released a new Chrome beta channel for Android 4.0+ handsets and tablets. If you want to know the exact version, it’s 25.0.1364.8 and you can’t find it in the Play Store via search, so you have to use the link indicated below.

The version 25 release shows that Google wants to bring the Android browser in line with its desktop counterpart, but since this is a beta update, be careful about bugs. The last Chrome release for Android was a while ago, in November, to version 18. This beta release brings improved JavaScript performance, increased benchmark results (in Octane) and new HTML5 features for developers, like CSS filters. The beta also brings some problems like sluggish performance on devices like the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus, plus freezes on some Qualcomm GPU driver version handsets.

You can get the Chrome beta release from here and you should know that some users have experience broken formatting for some sites because of text autosizing and the inability to submit comments to Facebook posts in the desktop version of Facebook. You can install both the regular Chrome for Android and Chrome Beta on the same device and test them together. Chrome Beta for now on will serve for testing and benchmarking of the Chrome experience evolution, so it’s more of a preview release.
