  • If you’re looking for a solid app to block all the annoying ads on your Android handset, the answer is a new app called Adblock Plus. The software blocks all of the annoying ads on your Android device and doesn’t even require a root. It has recently been launched and it requires Android 2.1 and up.

The application takes up 1.8 MB and it’s available for free. The cool thing is that’s able to block ads both when you’re browsing and when you’re using your favourite apps, like Angry Birds and such. Adblock Plus will handle mobile ads, video advertising, banners, push notifications, display advertising, HTML5 advertising and more. On rooted devices the app will block ads over WiFi and 3G, while on non rooted Android 3.1 devices or later it will only block ads on WiFi.

This is an open source and community driven project, that involves many volunteers contributing to the development and maintenance of Adblock Plus. Right now there are over 40 continuously updating filter lists in over a dozen languages. The makers of app caution us that this may become the highest data using app on your Android device, so careful with your data traffic. You can download it from here.
