  • The Ouya project started with a bunch of Kickstarter backers and now here’s another Android console, dubbed MG, also on Kickstarter. This product is dubbed as an ultra sleek dedicated portable gaming system, that’s designed for the freemium app marketplace on Android. It has a built in transaction system, that can easily be preset and managed by parents.

The device has an ergonomic design and “endless amount of games”, plus an affordable price point. PlayMG is a new startup that’s behind this project and the console will be ready by the 2012 Holiday season apparently. MG features a 4 inch WVGA 480 x 800 pixel display, a TCC8925 Cortex A5 processor a 1 GHz, 1 GB of RAM, 4GB of internal flash storage and a 1880 mAh battery. There’s Android 4.0 ICS as the OS on board and WiFi 802.11 b/g/n for connectivity purposes.

At the front there’s a 1.3 megapixel camera for still image and video capture and there’s also a stereo headset jack in the mix. We have microSD card slot for expandable storage, a gyroscope, compass and accelerometer sensors. The idea here was to build an affordable device for the 63 million kids under 18 who are the heaviest game users. MG also offers an Avatar feature, with the inclusion of the MG Ro.bots. Each console comes with its own Avatar and gets an own Origin Story depending on your actions.

The price of the MG is around $99 for early backers and there’s also a $149 offer that gets you the console ahead of the holidays.
