  • In December 2012 the web was abuzz regarding a fresh update for Minecraft, in the Pocket Edition that you’re playing on Android right now. The update is version 0.5.1, that gets detailed today with some interesting facts and features. There’s also some info about a bigger future update to version 0.6.0.

For one thing, Signs will be coming in version 0.5.1, plus a bunch of other goodies. 0.5.1 is seen by many as a minor update, that’s focused on bug fixes and optimizations, but the 0.6.0 is the real bigshot here. Clouds and bluer skies will also be added to the Pocket Edition, with clouds being available for faster devices, while bluer skies are available on All Android devices. Gravity will apply to blocks like sand and gravel. At this point if you dig through a mountain of sand, it’s all safe, because the sand doesn’t fall on you.

Well, that makes the game too easy, so it will change in version 0.5.1, when sand and gravel blocks will follow gravity and fall on your head. Other features rumored to appear in Minecraft Pocket Edition 0.5.1 are Stone Brick Slabs and Stairs, but they are only rumors. Redstone powered objects are also prepared to make their entrance on mobile, but that may happen in version 0.6.0. Caves are also being developed, but they’re a problem, since they make the FPS drop in the game.
