Microsoft Office Touch Version Coming to Android Before Windows
Ever since he was named Microsoft’s CEO early this year, Satya Nadella has pushed the company to be more open about its solutions. That includes offering the likes of Office on other platforms like iOS or Android. Well, today we learn that Office for Android, the touch optimized one will be released months before the touch Windows 8 version.
The user base of Office remains largely PC-based, but if you want to get to the mobile users, you must offer them a solid package, on a popular platform, such as Android or iOS. ZDNet claims that the Android versions of the touchscreen Office apps will come by the end of the year, while the Windows version will come around Spring time 2015. This means we could get the brand new Office with Windows 9, since it should be ready for at least a preview version by then.
This means that Windows 9 RT may still be on the cards and one of the main objections regarding Windows RT was actually the lack of touch apps meant to run differently compared to the standard desktop PC experience. The Office for iPad debuted in March and Microsoft wants to take the action to Android. Excited?
