  • Even if Google decided to base their new smartphone on the LG flagship device, that does not mean that the Optimus G should be looked at as a Nexus device. The manufacturer decided to sell it with a locked bootloader and given the huge potential of the hardware configuration it was cause for concern among the device owners.

In case of the new Nexus devices, unlocking the boatloader is as easy as pie and only a matter of developers making custom recoveries compatible for them. There are some tools that even provide all-in-one solutions for all Nexus devices, from unlocking to flashing the stock ROM.

For LG’s handset the large community at XDA Developers has been working and are behind of what is now an LG Optimus G tool for unlocking the device’s bootloader.  Through Project FreeGee XDA Developers member thecubed has devised a solution that will alow you to install your favorite custom ROMs on the device with little to worry about. For all the necessary steps you must visit the dedicated thread on XDA and remember to take all safety precautions before proceeding.
