  • Video traffic has doubled on mobile networks since Instagram debuted its video service merely one week ago and the figures are truly stunning. Instagram now stands for over 30% of the total OTT video, beating YouTube and Vine, according to an analysis by Avvasi.

Avvasi employs a mobile video Quality of Experience measurement tool, that is deployed at tier 1 mobile operators all over the world. This means they can efficiently monitor and report on the increase of video traffic resulting from the launch of the Instagram video service. The service launch also had a negative influence on the overall quality of video delivered.

This was caused by the huge increase in traffic and network overcharge. The graph above pretty much says it all as far as Instagram Video is concerned and I’d certainly like stats for Vine’s highest moment of popularity, since I have a feeling YouTube has all the reasons to fear these products’ surge.
