  • If you’re an Ice Age fan like I am you probably know that on July 13th there’s a new movie in the series coming up, called Ice Age Continental Drift. Also dubbed Ice Age 4, this movie is celebrated in the Android world through a new game called Ice Age Village, available for free in Google Play Store and made by Gameloft. We tested the game on an Iconia Tab A200 tablet from Acer.

The title is surprisingly fun and refreshing, following a bit of the recipe of the tycoons of the 90s and adding more to the experience. There’s a casual minigame with Scrat, modelled after Fruit Ninja, but with piranhas and the hyperactive squirrel at its core. The main idea is to create a community, a village where all species of animals can live, have offsprings and carry on in harmony. You’ll create living spaces for beavers, birds, sloths and many more and allow them to have babies, create a family, feed them and collect money from them.

There are two currents in the game: cash and nuts. Both allow you to build more buildings, buy status, buy new species of animals or play the Scrat minigame. Sadly, the resources will never feel like enough, since things are pretty pricey in the game. All the famous characters are here, including Ellie, Manny, Diego, Sid and Scrat, appearing on the screen to deliver their lines or simply give you missions. You’ll have to do a bit of “terraforming” before building, since ice alone isn’t good enough for the animals’ houses.

It’s a very nice game, with colourful graphics, great sounds and even some bonus videos from Ice Age 4 included. You’ll level up, do a ton of missions and quest. It’s a very entertaining title and we give it a 9.5 out of 10. You can download it from here.
