  • There’s a new Google Play Store apk out there, version 3.8.15, that has started rolling out to Android devices today and at first sight there’s nothing really new. However, the folks who dissected the extra bytes that the update brought found some interesting extras inside. They decoded both version 3.7.15 and 3.8.15 and compared them, only to find that Google is preparing to release redeemable Google Play Store gift cards.

A short while ago Google added the ability to have a Play Store balance for the folks who bought a Nexus 7. This brought us closer to gift cards, but still nothing certain there. They Play Store now intercepts links to play.google.com/redeem, returning a 404 error. However, folks who compiled a hacked APK came up with the screenshots included in this article proving the existence of a Wishlist and Gift Cards.

As you can see Final Fantasy III has been included in the wishlist, ready for a future purchase. So, are you ready to do the pretty questionable gesture of giving a friend a Play Store gift card for his birthday? This is also a cool way to get giveaways, free apps and games, movies, etc. Any other wishes that may come true via Play Store?
