  • The latest version of the Google Play Services has started rolling out to the users and with it come a few changes. Among them we find the likes of turn based multiplayer support for games and a preliminary API for Google Drive integration.

Luckily there’s also good news, like improved battery life for all users with Google Location Reporting on. The turn based multiplayer thing is a feature we’ve all been waiting for, especially since it works so fine on the Game Center on iOS. Android’s version supports between 2 and 8 players per game and their turns get uploaded to Play Services and shared with other players automatically.

There’s also an optional new “Connecting to Play Games” transition during sign in, before the permission dialog starts. This new version of Play Services comes with a developer preview of the Google Drive API for Android. It allows you to read and write files in Google Drive. By the way, Google Play Services 4.1 brings full support for DoubleClick for Publishers, DoubleClick Ad Exchange and Search Ads for Mobile Apps.
