  • Google Play Services version 6.5 is here and with it come enhanced APIs for Maps, Drive, Wallet and Fit. Some of the changes have to do with security, others with extra features implemented with the APIs. The update will be coming over the next couple of days.

The enhancements brought to Maps include a map toolbar that lets the user get their directions to a location without leaving the app. You can also opt for a “lite” map, showing a tiny thumbnail image of a location in the app. Google Drive has received more efficient file syncing, at least as far as battery consumption goes. In app search has evolved as well and information is saved across multiple apps.

Google Wallet now has a Donate with Google button, aside from the “Buy with Google” one. Google Fit got updated with a feature that allows developers add activity segments to their workout applications. It’s thus easier to pause a workout and track multiple activity type workouts. More details and required software are here.
