Google Play Newsstand Preparing for Release, Play Store 4.4 Teardown Hints at It
The other day we saw the brand new Play Store 4.4 leaking on the web and now a dissection of the app reveals some upcoming new features and sections. One of them could be the Google Play Newsstand, that will finally give you a place to buy the Top Gear Magazine and Rolling Stone and keep them in one place.
Back in March this year there was speculation about a similar service dubbed Play Magazines and also Play News. Back then the code leaked on the web was found as Javascript and CSS inside the web version of the Play Store, hinting at such a release. Play Store v4.4 brings back the hints, only this time the service is named Google Play Newsstand and since Google kept the code, they’re probably preparing for launch.
We’ve also heard there will be free trials offered and there will also be a My Newsstand area, filled with relevant newspapers and magazines, just like My Apps. Once again, just like we said when Play Store 4.4 came up, there’s no way of telling if the novelties will appear with Android 4.4 or separately, but we’d like separately, since for some device owners it may take forever for KitKat to arrive.
