Google Patent Reveals New Radial Design for Android Menus
It appears that Google is prepared to implement a new UI aspect on Android, one that may feel familiar to some users. A recent patent leak has revealed a new radial menu design for the platform, as shown in the images below.
Google already had a basic radial menu gesture in Honeycomb for slate browsers, but a more evolved radial setup was available on the Galaxy Note 3 when you pulled out the S Pen. The documents also show the interactions between the fingers of the user and the UI. The radial menu is circular area that includes a set of options that can expand beyond the initial circle, on an enlarged radius.
This may as well replace the collection of shortcuts in the notification area, or get rid of the entire shortcuts area. Such circular patterns are found in the camera area on stock Android, where the options are shown in a circular fashion. Let’s see if this makes to the next Android…
