  • Apple released a list recently showing its own idea of the best iOS apps in 2012 and now Google is doing the same with the Google Play Store applications. Some names here you’ve heard of and you agree about how essential they are, while others don’t really belong on such a list.

There’s no ranking among the apps, so all of them are equal at being the best apps in the Play Store this year, according to Google. So, without further extras, let’s check out the list:

    • Evernote
    • Zappos
    • Pinterest
    • Grimm’s Snow White
    • Expedia
    • Pocket
    • Ancestry
    • Fancy
    • Mint.com Personal Finance
    • SeriesGuide Show Manager
    • Pixlr Express
    • TED

Evernote and Pinterest have all the reason to be here and Google did a good job at keeping the list diversified. It’s strange that there’s no big gaming title on the list, since even the Snow White title is an interactive book rather than a game. Angry Birds could have easily been on this list, maybe the Star Wars title. Maybe Google wants to release a separate list for games or maybe it doesn’t want to alienate any game making partners, since we wouldn’t want Glu upset about being overtaken by Gameloft or Electronic Arts losing to Square Enix, right?

Here are some of the apps and games I would have placed on the list: Snapseed, Angry Birds Star Wars, Need for Speed Most Wanted, Modern Combat 4 and Flipboard. What would be your list?
