  • Google Maps will be updated to a new version, 8.1.0, that brings Terrain View to the mobile field. The folks of XDA Developers checked out the APK for this new Google Maps and found a new terrain view option, included in the side menu.

In this version you will be able to find 3D elevation details of the landscape, as well as mountains and more, making this a precious tool for hikers and climbers. Trail bikers will also be happy with it. The new version is not ready for mass consumption just yet, but as usual you can play with sideloading a bit, using the source link below. It appears to be update season for Google and Android, since the Google Camera was updated recently and then Chrome, Chrome Beta, Goggles, Docs, Sheets, Device Manager and Books.

Overall, the app is much the same as the previous one, with the same UI and the same features. You can download the APK from here if you want a taste of the biking action that will follow. If you like terrain view or simply want to discover new hidden features, have a go.
