Google Hangouts 1.3 Screenshots Seem to Confirm SMS/MMS Integration; Video Sharing Also on Its Way

  • It appears that Google Hangouts is ready for another update, this time to version 1.3, that brings a few interesting features. Rumor is that Hangouts, a successfully unified communication solution that integrates Google+ Messenger and Google Talk is supposed to get two much awaited functions.


    Those are SMS messaging and MMS integration. The upcoming Hangouts version 1.3 integrates who functions, according to rumors, as well as video sharing via the Hangouts protocol. Messages sent via SMS will show the “via SMS” sign near the timestamp, so you can figure out the protocol used for message delivery. You can also request delivery reports for sent texts and for now there’s no confirmation of sending video via MMS, in case you were wondering.

    There’s no exact intel on the time frame of this release, but odds are that it will come at the same time as KitKat. By the way, the pics shown here are mockups of what the finalized feature may look like when it’s released. I’m guessing that carriers will be very frustrated once those features arrive…
