  • If you’re looking to tweak your boring holiday video with some crazy effects, like an UFO or molotov cocktail, we have an app for that. It’s called FXGuru: Movie FX Director and we tested it on the Google Nexus 4. We had a lot of fun with it and there’s a video sample below that we edited in real time.

The idea is simple: you select a certain effect like a satellite crashing, an explosive TNT barrel or a drone mech robot and then you start shooting a video and applying that effect on top of it. Then you select when to have the effect start, what sound capture to be reproduced and the intensity of the effect. The app comes from Picadelic, who did a fine job with it. The software uses proprietary MotionMatch technology and lets you add realistic movement while filming.

The effects last over 10 seconds, enough time for creativity and the virtual decals provide guidance for each effect to align your shots seamlessly. The app offers you 3 free effects: old satellite crashing, UFO landing and explosive TNT barrel and for the rest of the package effects you pay about $9. One of the quirkiest app I’ve ever used… I have to say. That’s why we give it a 9.5 out of 10 and you can get it from here.
