From XDA One Developer Does it Again – Sony Z2 Camera App Ported to Other Xperia Line Devices

  • Now we know Sony’s experience in imaging in general is far from average. The Japanese manufacturer has a great history that includes television sets, LCD screens and foto/video cameras. They even make their own lens and use proprietary technologies for integrating their assets so that the results often surpass the competition’s offering.

Now Sony has been dealing with mobile phone cameras for a long time. I remember owning a T610 – back when it was manufactured by Sony Ericsson and it was advertised including it’s Sony made camera. That was back in 2003 if I remember correctly. Then the Sony Ericsson Aino had an 8 MP camera. Another phone I owned and I could say it took some pictures far better than a lot of smartphones offer today at the same and even over resolution. But things changed and Sony went on it’s own path developing the Xperia line. And at MWC this year it presented its latest flagship – the Xperia Z2 having a 20.7 MP camera with all the software improvements one would expect to go with it.

It all started with XDA Developer DooMLoRD coming out of nowhere with a Xperia Z2 firmware and all the goodies in it. Then it was forum member xperiaz2 that decided to make the main attraction of all the software dump had to offer available for other Xperia devices running Jelly Bean 4.3+. And that was it! The Camera software with all that it featured – background defocus, social, time shift video and so many more you wouldn’t believe – were ported. One thing I would have wished is that they went for other devices and even older Android version. Well I guess you must be happy with what you can get. So visit the official thread and get the so precious packages.
