  • Square Enix is taking its entire Final Fantasy series release by release and remaking it for mobile, it seems. Final Fantasy III and the first game have already hit Android and iOS and now Final Fantasy IV gets a trailer and an initial release on iOS, coming a bit later on Android.

The pleasant surprise here is that Square Enix also teased Final Fantasy V, saying it’s on its way and other games as well. I would like to see Final Fantasy VII at some point available on mobile, since that was without question the best game of the series and everyone is crying for a new adventure of Cloud and company. Back to FF IV, the game from the trailer is a port from the DS version, just like past releases, like FF III for example. I suspect the future FF games will also migrate from the DS, since the touch experience is easier to emulate after all.

Final Fantasy IV for Android will be released in early 2013 and it could be priced at around $16. The iOS version debuts on December 20th 2012 and the original game was published in 1991. It followed the story of Cecil, a dark knight trying to prevent the sorcerer Golbez from getting powerful crystals and destroying the world. The game introduced famous concepts like Active Time Battle, a concept that became essential for Final Fantasy titles.
