  • Although last week’s Facebook launch was not related to a reader, as previously speculated, there’s now solid proof that such a product is in the making. Zuckerberg and co are said to be preparing a Google Reader alternative, since that service will be canned soon.

The Wall Street Journal confirms the info and claims that the new service will display content from Facebook users and publishers “in a new visual format tailored for mobile devices”. It all sounds a bit like Flipboard and internally the project is codenamed just Reader, a pretty clear indication of what we should expect.

The project has been in development for over a year now and it will allow users to swipe through posts and articles, being only limited to mobile. There will be no desktop app available and it’s not yet clear when the product will launch. Hopefully soon!
