  • After last week’s total update of the Android Facebook app, making the application a native one, today Facebook announced a new evolution. There are fresh Nearby features in the Android app. The update application is already available in the Google Play Store and the people of FB are saying that it makes it easier to discover places that you friends like.

You can also find new places and share them with your friends. The users sees the places recommended by friends, or the ones they checked into and liked. They can easily browse through the locations and POIs based on category and in the category section you will analyze individual locations to discover further details like business hours and if your friends have been there.

There’s also a side of Nearby that’s all about sharing. This one allows the user to share his opinion on a certain place by adding a rating or recommendation. The process will continue as your friends find the same places and leave their own ratings and recommendations. Basically, this is a move to replace Foursquare, if you ask me. This is an early release of the app, so expect further improvements.
