  • Facebook is supposed to be building a new and very interesting app behind the scenes, according to Bloomberg. This is an app for location tracking, that will be unveiled soon, according to the same source. The application is for mobile and it tracks the user’s locations, even when the app is not open.

The app is designed to allow users to find friends who are nearby. Facebook didn’t want to comment on this story, that raises more than a few eyebrows and privacy concerns. Bloomberg quotes two sources, who told them about the app, that should debut in March. The software team creating the app is led by product director Peter Deng, a former Google employee, it seems. The team also includes engineers from Glancee, a location tracking company that Facebook bought in May.

Gowalla is also involved, yet another location-based social network that Facebook bought in December 2011. With a new search mechanism called Graph and this mobile tracking, we’re starting to feel that Facebook will control our lives even more than Google in the future… Are we safe?!
