  • After spending 18 hours as a Release Candidate, Chameleon Launcher for Android tablets has not reached the Google Play Store in the 1.0 version. This is no longer a beta software and you can tweak and rearrange your tablet’s interface as you please. You will have to pay $10 for this type of fun, though…

If you were one of the backers of Chameleon on Kickstarter you probably can get the app for free, but for the normal mortal that costs $10. 3 months ago the Kickstarter campaign started and it was met with success. There was a dedicated team behind the project that finally pushed Chameleon 1.0 to its release, in the predicted mid September time frame. Chameleon is a part of the 25% of Kickstarter projects that actually made it to their deadline. Things included in the new build include the fixing of the “blank widget” problem, the deactivation of the sleeping Dashboard and the ability of 7 inch tablets to have 5 dashboards.

10 inch tablets are limited to 4 dashboards. Things that still need work are the lack of ability to authenticate in Gmail and Twitter (widget) sometimes and the lack of calendar and Google+ widget for now. For those of you who don’t know, Chameleon is a tablet launcher for Android, that allows you to work with multiple home screens, each with their own layout of widgets and applications. There are context-based screens here with relevant info. You can get the launcher from here.
