  • The Android Tablet custom launchers category has been greatly improved with the launch of Chameleon Launcher Beta. The innovative launcher represents a is a unique approach to the category. It is based almost entirely in HTML5 and thus delivers a fast and stable experience across every device.

As a result of the HTML5 environment, none of the native Android widgets that are available in the Google Play Store will work with Chameleon launcher. While the many features and overall smoothness can be applauded some users found the lack of widgets frustrating at a certain level. To relieve some of the tension, Teknision, the developer behind Chameleon launcher, has pushed an update that has added a few more widgets. With the new version you will now get a clock, switches and Facebook. The developer also talks about a Chameleon launcher Widget SDK that will enable other developers to create custom widgets for the launcher.

Teknision announced they will “be contributing significant resources towards improving Chameleon’s speed and stability before the V1.0 release.” Here is the list of changes for the latest version:

    • Added ability to use custom wallpapers.
    • Internet connection is no longer required when starting Chameleon.
    • Users no longer need to enter their Google Play password during verification.
    • Fixed issue where App Tray icons would sometimes be duplicated when getting App info.
    • Improvements to Home Screen Manager interface.
    • Improvements to Widget and Wallpaper icon graphics.
    • Implemented additional Widget APIs in preparation for upcoming Widgets.
