Castle of Illusion Review (LG G3): 1990 Sega Genesis Remake, Overpriced, but Fun and Very Hard (Video)
Castle of Illusion is a game that some of you may have played back in 1990, if you had a Sega Genesis console back then. This game has been remade for Android and we’ve played it on the LG G3 handset. We’re dealing with a platformer from Disney, one that’s priced at $10, which is a lot, even for today’s standards.
The story goes like this: the evil witch Mizrabel has kidnapped Minnie mouse and you have to rescue her. You start off in a creepy castle, that holds the doors towards the 5 worlds you’ll enter to save Minnie. You’ll go through a land of toys, a sort of underwater tomb and a charmed forest. This being a platformer, you will jump by pressing the right side of the screen and use a thumbstick on the left to duck and go left or right.
The controls aren’t very price by the way. There’s also a red button, that lets you throw stuff, like apples or balls at the incoming toy soldiers, bats, planes, clowns and such. There are also boss battles at the end of each world, all of them very hard. The perspective changes from 2D to 3D and back pretty often and the game looks pretty hot. We’ve got a narrator in the background sometimes, for an extra Disney flavour added to the game.
You have to collect gems to open new levels and you can replay the same levels all over again with a timer to get bonuses. Overall, this is kind of a short game, overpriced, but also charming and a must play for platformer passionates. We give it a 7.9 out of 10 and you can download it here.
