  • Google has introduced their own version of gesture based keyboard with Android 4.2. While the factory images and updates were still to come, the keyboard was portted in a pre-release form to work on non Nexus devices alongside the manufacturer provided one.

With the factory images and AOSP code released for Android 4.2 developers can work their magic and port as many features as they can for devices running older versions of the OS. It is the case with the gesture based keyboard that is now available on the Play Store to be installed just as you would any app.

AOSP 4.2 keyboard is only compatible with devices running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and up. It includes only the English dictionary though the developer has planed to make it multi-language compatible. Gingerbread compatibility is also planed for a future release.

Download AOSP 4.2 keyboard for free either from the Play Store.

Update: Play Store link no longer working. Download the .APK from here.
